Overcoming procrastination at least for today

I have putting off getting my listings back on Etsy. I had to open up a new shop. I find the details in selling my creations to be a chore. Maybe that's why I've put it off so long. But at last, it's done.

I've been in a bit of a funk lately too, it feels like too many things are going wrong and not enough things going my way. I gave myself a pep talk yesterday, you know its not going to get done on its own, so if you want your situation to be different then you better get going doing something about it. I grabbed my camera and my box of completed creations, I headed outside to the sun. I spent hours taking pictures, I even got Samantha's help modeling my necklaces. I had my orders don''t take pictures of my face, she told me. We had a good laugh as I focused my camera on the necklace that lay at breast level. Are you wearing a bra, I asked? I don't need to, she responded. Yes you do, you jiggle when you giggle, see, I said joking, I showed her the blurred picture. It must be nice, I said. It's been many, many years since I've been able to go ala natural. I think it was a brief month when I was 13 years old.

Last night I loaded all the pictures on my computer and stayed up way too late. I found a much better way of doing my Etsy listings this time. I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. I opened Word and created a separate document for each piece of jewelry. I copied a picture to the top of each page and included the price. I was able to fly through uploading all my listings this time. When I originally did the listing a year ago, Etsy kept crashing and I kept losing all my information. So now I have something to show for all my time spent with  my face buried in the computer. Check out my Etsy site www.etsy.com/shop/jillswhims

On a different note, I spun some yarn on my trip to San Diego. Actually I spun yarn on Amtrak and in the Amtrak station in San Diego. It's funny to watch people watching me spin yarn. I guess it's not your everyday occurrence. I had two spindles of yarn to wash and I wanted to dye one batch. I saved some of the dark blue dye I bought and used a month ago. Some thing went wrong though, I think frugality caught up with me so now I know, the same batch of dye does not produce an endless supply of color. Like my blue yarn? And the funny thing is, I put the dye back in the jar to save it. I think you can see one strand of blue.
I spun this yarn kind of chunky, I wanted to see if I could get curls from wool to poke out of my twists.

The same yarn wrapped up all pretty.
I couldn't resist adding a picture of my Lulu girl. She sits so funny. I don't think she like the feel of the ground on her bum.

  1. I am in awe of everything you are doing. You have bottled up your creative inspiration for far too long, and it's time has come. The new spun chunky yarn is a knitters dream. I have seen skeins of hand dyed and spun yarn at ON HAND Yarn store in baskets with very pricey tags ~ now I understand why! I went to ETSY and looked at your hand made jewelry about a week ago and immediately shared with Lisa. I also saw your comment to a local artist and jewelry maker, Renee Jardine who I suggested you "friend". I met her at our dance club and enjoy seeing her work, although her style of jewelry isn't as organic as yours. She too delves into multi mediums including sign painting, note cards, portrait photography as well as jewelry. Its nice to not limit oneself. Keep pushing yourself. Lynda

  2. Thank you Lynda for the words of inspiration and encouragement. Creativity has exploded on me and it's hard to choose a focus. Sam told me the other day, Mom, I think you need to pick one thing to work on and focus on that, I responded, Bite your tongue. I'm done limiting myself, it's all or nothing!!!

Making yarn is a long process but I hope to put some on Etsy one of these days. Thanks for sharing my site with Lisa. Renee makes some beautiful things, I like that she has some of her creations at a local cafe. I need to work on getting my work out there more.
